About Edinburgh Playhouse
The Edinburgh Playhouse is the largest working theatre in the United Kingdom by seating capacity. Opened in 1929 as a super-cinema and variety theatre, it has staged every kind of entertainment from ballet and opera to Broadway musicals and major rock concerts. The ornate Art Deco auditorium retains its original grandeur, and its position on Leith Walk at the foot of Calton Hill makes it one of Edinburgh's most prominent landmarks.
